Asha Wade Ceramics Studio: Terms and Conditions and Health and Safety Guidelines 

Welcome to Asha Wade Ceramics Studio. The studio is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone. By visiting and using the studio, you agree to the following Terms and Conditions and Health and Safety Guidelines. Please read carefully.

Terms and Conditions

1. Studio Access and Booking

  • Studio Hours: All bookings must be made in advance and online through the booking system.
  • Booking and Cancellations: Cancellations must be made 7 days in advance for a full refund or rescheduling. Cancellations made less than 7 days before the session can not be refunded.
  • Late Arrivals: If you arrive late to a scheduled session, your session time will not be extended and the full session fee will still apply.

2. Studio Use

  • Shared Studio Space: Please respect the work areas and clean up your workspace at the end of each session (20 minutes are included at the end of each session). For further information see Health and Safety: Studio Cleanliness. 
  • Age Restrictions: All classes are for adults unless stated. Any children's classes or workshops for under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. 
  • Behaviour: A considerate and respectful manner to others should be observed in the studio at all times. 
  • Food and Drink: For health and safety reasons, no food or drink is allowed near areas where clay is handled.

3. Equipment and Materials

  • Studio Materials: All clay, glazes, and firing services are provided and  included, unless otherwise agreed upon. Additional costs for clay will be incurred if usage is in excess if 3kg per class.
  • Damage to Equipment: If any studio equipment, pottery wheels or tools are damaged, you are responsible and agree to reimburse the studio for repair or replacement costs. 

5. Kiln Firing

  • Firing Services: Kiln firing is offered as part of your studio session. The studio will fire your pieces as per the agreed-upon firing schedule. The Studio is not responsible for any damage that occurs during firing, but will take reasonable precautions to minimise risk.
  • Pick-Up and Storage: You will be notified when fired pieces are ready for pickup. As space is limited, if pieces are not collected within 2 weeks, they may be disposed of at the studio’s discretion. 

6. Liability and Waiver

  • Assumption of Risk: By entering the studio, you acknowledge that pottery involves the use of potentially hazardous tools, equipment and materials, and you assume all risks associated with participation.
  • Liability Waiver: The Studio is not liable for any injuries or accidents that occur while you are using the studio facilities, materials, or equipment. By using the services, you agree to release the studio from any liability. Studio rules and health and safety will be provided at the start of each class. 

7. Privacy Policy

  • Data Collection: We respect your privacy. Any personal information collected (e.g., name, email, etc.) is for booking purposes and customer communication purposes only and will not be shared with any third parties without your consent.

Health and Safety Guidelines

To help create a safe, welcoming space for everyone, please follow the guidelines outlined below:

1. Clay and Dust Safety

  • Dust Control: Clay dust can be harmful if inhaled. Please keep your workspace clean and dampen your clay to minimise airborne dust. 
  • Masks: If working with dry clay or creating dust (e.g., sanding), this would done outside and wearing a dust mask. Masks are provided in the studio.
  • Ventilation: The studio is equipped with an effective ventilation system and plenty of windows but please help by keeping your area tidy and dust-free.

3. Glaze Safety

  • Non-Toxic Glazes: Only non-toxic, food-safe glazes are provided in the studio. 
  • Inhalation and Ingestion: Do not eat or drink while working. Always wash your hands after handling clay or glazes, especially before eating.
  • Proper Handling: Handle all glazes, slips and underglazes with care. 

4. Kiln Safety

  • Kiln Usage: Please do not attempt to open, operate or unload the kiln. All kiln services will be carried out by the studio. 
  • Kiln Cool Down: If cooling down during classes, you will be informed and will be asked to not come into direct contact with the kiln. 

5. Tool and Equipment Safety

  • Use Tools Safely: Pottery tools can be sharp and dangerous. Please handle all tools safely and with care and ensure they are stored correctly when not in use.
  • Inspect Equipment: If you notice any equipment is damaged or broken, please report immediately.

6. Studio Cleanliness

  • Clean Workspaces: Please clean up your workspace at the end of each session. Use the provided cleaning supplies and keep tools and your work area tidy. 
  • Waste Disposal: Dispose of excess clay and trimmings in the appropriate and designated clay disposal containers. Never wash clay down the sink. Please note, all unused clay will be recycled and reused. 

7. Electrical Safety

  • Electrical Equipment: When using pottery wheels please follow all safety instructions. If any equipment isn’t working properly, please report immediately.
  • Water and Electricity: Be cautious when working near electrical outlets or cords. 

8. Emergency Procedures

  • Emergency Exits: The studio’s emergency exits and fire escape routes will be shown upon arrival.

9. Other 

  • Aprons: Please wear an apron or old clothing, as clay can stain. Aprons are provided in the studio.
  • Comfortable footwear: It is advised that comfortable shoes / trainers are worn when using the pottery wheel. 
  • Tie back loose hair: If hair is long, it is recommended it is tied back. 
  • Short Nails: It is recommended nails are cut short to avoid discomfort when handling clay.
